A report on the Dong Tam village attack by The Dong Tam Task Force
This is a report on the violent government attack against Dong Tam commune (My Duc district, Hanoi, Vietnam) on January 9, 2020, which resulted in the death of the village leader and more than two dozens arrests just before the Lunar New Year. Three policemen were also reportedly killed. This report reaches the conclusion that this event is possibly the bloodiest land dispute in Vietnam in the last decade, it also highlights concerns about police brutality, abuse of power, and the contradictory concept of the “people’s ownership of land” in Vietnam.
