On December 9 2014, around 15:30, police mobilised dozens of thugs, strangers, stopped Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi on her way home and violently attacked her in payback for honouring International Human Rights Day on December 10 and to mark the first year anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Blogger Network. This abject act sponsored by the Authority of Socialist Republic of Vietnam has blatantly violated the Human Rights Convention which Vietnam is a signatory.
The attack occurred in the presence of dozens police and the so-called civil defenders who stationed at the front of Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi’s home at Lane 107, Phan Van Nam Street, Tan Phu District, Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city) for hours waiting for her. When Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi was about to reach home, suddenly, three women with their motor bikes tried to run her over.
After failing the first vicious attacks, thugs from different directions rushed to her, pulled her hairs and violently beat her up. Could not withstand this brutal, unprovoked attack carried out the police sponsored thugs, Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi collapsed on the ground.
While beating her, these women, in very loud voice, continuously and unashamedly slandered this courageous blogger of “having affairs with their husbands”. This slandering practice is normally used by thugs as a pre-text to attack people and to get empathy from on-lookers. Police and the so-called civil defenders were just standing there and guarding the thugs to beat the defenseless female blogger up
When Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi’s mother heard the news, she immediately rushed to scene with her neighbors to assist her daughter. Afraid of recognising their faces, this group of thugs, police and the so-called civil defenders quickly spread and walked away.
Although was badly hurt by the beating, Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi still determined to go to the city police station to protest this hooligan behavior. On the way to police station, Blogger Hoang Vi was followed by a large group of plainclothes police.
When her taxi reached to “Cach Mang Thang 8” Boulevard, this group of plainclothes police stopped the taxi and forced the taxi driver to go to the Ward 10, District 3′ s police station located nearby. But with strong objections from Hoang Vi and her family and could not force her to go to police station with no reason, police then pressured the taxi driver to turn the car back and brought Hoang Vi and her family home.
At the time this was article posted, there were about 50 police, plainclothes police, so-called civil defenders and thugs are stationed at the front of Blogger Hoang Vi’s residence aimed to terrorise Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi, her family and stop her from leaving the house.
