The Foreign and Commonwealth Office Human Rights Report 2013 was published in London today (10 April) by Foreign Secretary William Hague. Speaking about the publication of the report Ambassador Stokes said that the UK remained concerned at human rights developments in Vietnam. Vietnam remained a country of concern over the last year. The report highlights particular areas where Vietnam is falling short of its international human rights obligations, including on freedom of expression and assembly and its resumption of the death penalty.
He noted that Vietnam, now a member of the Human Rights Council, had received a number of recommendations through the Universal Periodic Review process and that the UK looked forward to working with Vietnam to implement those recommendations and improve the human rights situation in country.
